Description
"skull.zero: modulation dissociation," an exploration of analog modulation and distortion, in and beyond form and self. A hypnotic video art sculpture of an endlessly rotating skull as it passes through waves of glitch mutations, created with analog video hardware and old CRT televisions.
Very limited deluxe edition large 7" video print, blue glow-in-the-dark VHS tape in a custom case with custom insert, holographic vinyl sticker, and a USB stick containing the full video piece as a digital file. Both the video print and the tape are personally signed/numbered, limited edition of 10 copies.
The large video print is a sleek always-on video art piece for your home or office. 8.4" x 5.8" clear acrylic enclosure with a floating 7" vibrant HD screen. The back side is personally signed/numbered by me directly on the acrylic. It plays a 13.5 minute version of "modulation dissociation" that will loop for years. It is meant to sit on a desk or shelf, it does not include wall-mounting hardware. USB powered (includes cable and power brick) and also contains an internal battery that will allow it to play unplugged for approximately two hours. It does not play audio, as it is meant to be always on in your space. As it is a proper limited edition art piece, the video content is hard-wired into the piece, and cannot be changed. There is no SD card or ports of any kind (other than the power cable), there are no buttons on the piece at all. You cannot pause/rewind/etc, there are no controls for brightness or anything else. It is a self-contained piece of art. When you take it out of its custom box, it will begin playing. When you put it back in the box, it will stop playing.
The blue VHS tape is different in aesthetics and rarity, but it contains the same 60-minute version of "modulation dissociation" as the standard VHS edition. Inspired by the homebrew bootleg video tapes of my youth where I discovered so much music and underground film, I am hand-crafting each VHS as an art piece of its own. The labels and inserts are printed, cut, and assembled by hand here in our home print room, and will carry the imperfections of a human touch. The tapes are dubbed on my vintage VCRs which each carry their own recording quirks and may contribute some bespoke "glitches" of their own; no two copies will play exactly the same. The clamshell cases are authentic salvaged retro video rental store cases. Each case, having been used for rentals 25-30 years ago in a Movie Gallery video store, has its own unique flaws; no two are the same. The glow-in-the-dark tapes themselves are brand new, manufactured by VHS is Life, a small business by and for VHS enthusiasts.
The video file contains the full 60-minute loop in 16:9 1080p MP4 format, free of DRM and compatible with any modern video player, so you can enjoy eternal cybergoth ambiance on all of your screens.
NOTE: Video prints have a one year warranty. Display lifetime is rated for five years of continuous display time. However, if the device fails in any way after one year, we will not be able to replace it. Fear not, the included digital file will allow you to continue playing the video on any screen you want, forever.
